Welcome Message from our Chapter President

Welcome to the Halifax Area Chapter of MOAA's Website. Please take the opportunity to review the website and our Chapter activities. Our mission is to support veterans and their families through active engagement at the local, state, and national levels. We do this by supporting state and national legislative priorities in protecting earned benefits that include pay, health benefits, family support programs, and employment opportunities for Officers and spouses as they transition to the area. Also, we actively engage in the local community supporting monthly events at the Bennett VA Nursing Home and the VA Clinic. We have a Luncheon Meeting on the 4th Thursday of each month, except May through August, featuring speakers from the military, community, business, and health and wellness. Finally, our Chapter members value the camaraderie and shared experiences unique to those who have served. Our national motto is “Never Stop Serving.” So, please consider joining our Chapter! Semper Fi.

Congratulations to our Chapter for being awarded the 5-star Level of Excellence Award! Click on the link in "Red"  to learn more about the award 5-Star Award Information

Chapter President Col Bancroft McKittrick receives the 5-Star Colonel Marvin J. Harris Communications Award on behalf of the chapter. The award was presented in West Palm Beach at the FCOC 45th Annual Convention!
"About the Award

MOAA renamed the award in 2011 after Colonel Marvin J. Harris, USAF (Ret), Director of Public Relations from 1996 until 2011. Colonel Harris delivered effective communications to both military and civilian audiences. Each year, national MOAA holds a communications award contest to identify those councils and chapters that do an outstanding job communicating with their members and community.

Don't forget to take a look at the following:

National MOAA 2022 Legislative Priorities

"As we head into the second session of the 117th Congress, please take note of MOAA’s legislative priorities highlighted below. For 2022, we are continuing the momentum established over the previous year to carry our efforts into the second session of Congress. It is important to note all co-sponsors carry over, as do our messages and continued engagements.

Continuity and consistency of effort will be paramount to success — and we are closing in on many of these issues, so stay plugged in and ready to engage your legislators. There are other issues not listed here that are also being worked by our full staff of lobbyists. Our priorities will be shaped throughout the year depending on concurrent successes or emerging issues that warrant an all-hands approach.

We appreciate your grassroots efforts, which shore up all the work we are doing in the Capitol region. You can follow us online for updates on our progress."

Veterans Memorial Plaza Planned in Daytona Beach

During the Public Input phase of creating the new Veterans Memorial Bridge, there also was discussion to create an adjacent Veterans Memorial Plaza, which would be on the northwest side of the bridge. The Veterans Memorial Plaza will provide a beautiful place for people to come and remember fallen veterans.  It will also provide a location for local veteran organizations to host military ceremonies and celebrations.

You can see an artist's rendering of the proposed design, and make a donation by clicking on this link.
