Welcome to the Lake & Sumter Counties Chapter (MOAA). Our chapter covers the entire geographical/demographic areas of Lake and Sumter Counties, Florida as well as all in The Villages, including Marion County. We have monthly meetings September through May, usually on the 2nd Wednesday of the month, at the Eisenhower Recreation Center, The Villages.
We are a very active chapter participating in numerous community activities. Two of our major fund raisers are devoted to "Operation Helping Hand" (support to the family members of those wounded suffering brain and spinal injuries being treated at the James A. Haley VA Hospital in Tampa, FL) and annual Junior ROTC scholarships to a cadet at each of five area high schools. Other locally based, military oriented charity activites are also supported.
And, importantly, we keep our membership informed of legislative activities impacting the military and encourage them to contact their legislative representatives to voice their opinions.
A chapter membership of about 200 members, we are proud of our achievements. The chapter was awarded the "Four Star" Level of Excellence Award by National MOAA in 2008, 2009, and 2010. We received the top Level of Excellence "Five Star" Award in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and again in 2015. This is a tribute to the exceptional combined efforts of all our members.
Our annual Charity Golf Tournament in May, benefiting Operation Helping Hand, Junior ROTC, Toys For Tots, and other military related functions, draws a good crowd of players, and is a highlight of our activities.
In November we have an evening membership meeting to recognize cadets from the five Junior ROTC units we support within our chapter area.
We welcome and encourage you to join us. The strength of MOAA rests in the strength of all chapters, and we need your support. See the About Us menu item for more detailed information and you can submit your application by selecting Join Us.
