GENERAL
The Central Florida Chapter is one of the oldest Chapters in the State, having received its Charter in August of 1959. Several Charter members are still on the Chapter roster and are occasionally able to attend Chapter meetings. Chapter membership, including auxiliaries, stands at just over 600. The membership area includes most of Orange County, south Seminole County and northwest Osceola County. Membership eligibility criteria are the same as for National MOAA and Chapter bylaws require applicants to be members of National. Those interested in membership should contact one of the above for further information and/or a membership application. Dues are currently $15 per year for regular members and $10 per year for auxiliaries. Life memberships are available. Officers are elected in June and serve one year, except Directors whose terms are two years.

MEETINGS

Meetings are held every month except July and August, the third Saturday of the month. Some meetings are luncheon and some are evening (dinner) meetings. Programs vary with emphasis on informative speakers whose subjects are of interest to military retirees. Since the Naval Training Center, Orlando, Officers' Club closed in May, 1997, the Chapter has met in various locations in an effort to find a new "home" which is convenient for most members and provides quality food and service. Prospective members are invited to attend a meeting - call any of the above - preferably the Vice President - for meeting and program information.  The chapter currently meets at the Holiday Inn on Wymore Road in Altamonte Springs.

NEWSLETTER
The award-winning Chapter newsletter "FOCUS" is published 11 times per year - monthly September thru June and one "Summer" issue. The newsletter is mailed to each member, to other Chapters, to ROTC/JROTC units, and to various military leaders and elected officials. In addition, a "Chapter Handbook" is published and mailed to each member every even-numbered year. The Handbook contains the Chapter Roster, the names and 'phone numbers of all officers and directors, the Chapter Bylaws and a "Personal Information" section. In odd-numbered years, a limited number of "interim" rosters are produced for use by the officers, directors and committee chairpersons.

CIVIC ACTIVITIES
The Chapter presents the MOAA "Leadership" medal and certificate, plus a small cash award, to the outstanding Junior class cadet (as selected by the Unit Staff) of 25 JROTC and ROTC units in the greater Orlando area. In addition, the Chapter presents food gift certificates each year to local active duty families (E-4 or below) who are experiencing temporary financial difficulties. The program is handled anonymously by the NTC Chaplains. Finally, the Chapter is a participant in MOAA's "Designated Scholar" student assistance program.
